June 11

REMINDER -- Tater Diggin' on Mon, June 11 at 6:30pm.
  • Cheryl has been caring for her step-mom who is battling cancer.  It's been a long week for them both with surgery on Wed, coming home on Sat and a late night at the Emergency Room on Sat night/Sun morning.
  • Jay's dad will be having another radiation treatment on June 26th. 
  • Roy is scheduled to have a kidney stone "blasted" on Friday, June 15.
  • Congratulations to Mike and Sharon's daughter, Morgan who was elected to the board of Kids of Childhood Cancer and played a key role in this weekend's event at Smokin' Harley Davidson!!
  • Happy Birthday Sharon and Chuck!!












April 4
  • Continue to keep Michelle, Chuck and the kids in your prayers.  Michelle's dad passed away last weekend after a long, hard battle with cancer.  He will be missed by many.
  • Kerry L is traveling this week to visit her parents.  Her dad has had some falls recently.  Additionally, next week is Kerry's brothers birthday -- the first since his death in October.  Kerry anticipates that this will be a particular difficult time for her parents.
  • Holli S's biopsy results were good!  YAY!

March 11 and 18, 2012
  • Michelle E's dad, Mike H. will be having colonectomy surgery on Mon, March 19.  Additionally, the cancer has spread to several organs and the prognosis is poor.  Mike has been through a lot in recent months and still faces tremendous hurdles.
  • Tom H's grandmother (99 years of age) is "completing her journey" under the care of hospice.
  • Debbie M lifted up a family from Texas.  The dad, a very active coach and community leader, died of a massive stroke and the mom is also not well.  There are 2 children in this family - ages 9 and 13.
  • Jay G's is currently taking chemo for cancer that remains in his liver.  The treatment leaves him very tired, but on days that he doesn't take it, he has been able to get out and about some!  
  • Catrin G requested prayers for a co-worker who passed out at work last week and is currently hospitalized in critical condition.  Doctors don't have a clear understanding of what happened.
  • Mike H. provided an update on his nephew and things seem to be going OK!
  • Judy H's brother continues to struggle with anxiety and depression.
  • Kerry L's mom is slowly beginning to improve -- watching TV and getting out a little.  Kerry will be visiting for Spring Break.
  • Lou Ann's co-worker recieved results from her biopsy - unfortunately it is cancer.   She will be working with Drs to determine next steps.
  • Ronnie S's dad passed away this week - contact Holli or Jerry if you need address or telephone info for sending  cards or reaching out.
  • Judy H. shared that Anna's husband and several other firefighters participated in a St Baldrick's event and had their heads shaved by a precious little 6 year girl who is battling kidney cancer.  The event raised over $5000!!  Please keep all the victims of childhood cancer in your prayers -- Vinny remains quite sick.   Click Here to view and follow Vinny D's Caring Bridge Blog.
  • Jerry H. reported that the Klutz's are both doing well, though still dealing with some difficulties.  Continue to keep them both in your prayers.
  • Debbie M expressed her thanks for the cards and prayers following the death of her grandmother.
  • Sharon H shared that Mike's nephew got a job and attended church with his Grandparents last week -- so far a good start!

  • Visitors this week included Jessica T's mom and Dean and Kim H.
  • Angela M's dad is home and doing well!
  • Debbie M's grandmother passed away last week.  Continue to keep the family in your prayers -- many of them will be traveling over the next few days.
  • Catrin G's dad's cancer has returned in his lungs and will be undergoing chemo and radiation treatments in the near future.
  • Mike H is concerned about his parents (in their 80s) and recent arrangments for his nephew to live with them.  It is weighing heavy on Mike that his nephew (in his 20s) has had some difficulties with becoming a responsible adult and how this new arrangement might impact his parents.
  • Jeff P (Niki S's fiance) has a job interview on Monday for a teaching position at North Forsyth!!
  • Chuck E reported that work is going well -- he has leased 3 properties in February and a 4th is brewing!
  • Lou Ann lifted up a co-worker who will be having a breast biopsy this week.
  • Karen D lifted up several neighbors who are dealing with cancer.  She specifically mentioned Shirley who has pancreatic cancer and is deteriorating quickly.
  • Karen also mentioned Marissa (a friend of Adam's).  She is 14 and her doctors are trying to figure out details related to fluid on her brain and migraines.   
  • Congratulations to Blaire  (Chuck and Michelle's youngest) who has published her first book -- "Flossy Flamingo's Adventures!"   Take a look at Alabaster Book Publishing where you can purchase your own copy!!!    Wow!  Great job Blaire!

  • Angela M's is in rehab at Whitaker.  Should be coming home this week.
  • Debbie M's grandmother is home and being taken care of by Debbie's mom and Hospice.  But.....she is Facebooking!
  • Catrin G's dad's cancer  has returned in his lungs.  He will be undergoing chemo and radiation treatments in the near future.
  • Niki S has a friend in need of prayer support.  Her husband recently moved out and she is struggling emotionally.

  • Angela M's dad continues his recovery from a stroke.  A set back last week sent him back to the hospital.  As of Sunday he remained at Forsyth.




















  • Michell E provided an update on a family who has formerly been a part of our class.  They will be sending their 9 year old son to a program for children with autism.  A very difficult time for the entire family as he will be away for an extended amount of time.




















  • Karen D encouraged us to reach out to those who haven't been to church in a while and specifically mentioned Libby and Jamie.  Consider sending a card, email, text message or phone call to someone this week.






















  • Debbie M's grandmother has been living with cancer and is currently in the hospital.   She is expected to go home later this week with hospice support.

  • Karen D menioned her neighbors -- Ronnie and Shirley B.  Shirley has stage 4 pancreatic cancer.

























  • Angie M's dad, who experienced a stroke on New Year's Eve, is home and doing well!  Yay!

















  • A couple of things from last week...since there was no website update!
    • Michelle E's dad, Mike H, will be having more chemo in February to address spots found on his lymph nodes. 
    • Catrin G's mom had gall bladder surgery.

    • Lots of SGUMC members are battling cancer -- radiation treatments, chemotherapy and hospice services are a part of the lives of many of our congregation.
    • Lou Ann mentioned a friend who has Lou Gehrig's disease.  He recently had to have a trach tube inserted. 
    • Michelle E. reported that her dad is doing well after recently having a heart attack that required a new stint.
    • Angela M's dad continues to recover from the effects of a stroke he suffered on New Year's Eve.
    • Congratulations to Lou Ann's oldest son who is a finalist for 2 college scholarships!

    It's been a while since we met as a class, but there are a couple of things to update you on.....
    • Angela M's dad is at Forsyth Hospital after having a stroke over the weekend.  He should be starting rehab at Medical Park Hospital later this week.  Angela says he's in great spirits and is looking forward to his therapy.  
    • Michelle E's dad had a heart attack last week.  He's now the proud owner of a stint and is doing well (at home).
    • Angela and Tim's oldest daughter, Carson, has been chosen to particpate in the US Olympic Development Program for girls soccer!!   Their family will be traveling to Georgia this weekend -- Good Luck Carson!!
    • Michelle E started her new job today!!!   She is teaching 2nd grade to a very lucky group of children.

    Kerry L's parents are understandably struggling with the death of their son and missing his presence in their lives.
    Niki S. has an elderly relative who is very ill.
    Susan has recently had surgery on her arm.


    Remember those who are struggling this Christmas -- financially, emotionally and otherwise.  Take some time to especially lift up special prayers for those facing their first Christmas without someone they love.

    Michelle E - has 2 friends in need of prayer:  Colleen B.'s husband passed away last week, leaving 2 sons (ages 18 and 23).  Another friend, who has been mentioned previously as battling cancer, has taken a turn for the worse and is not doing well at all.

    Julie B has a co-worker with two childre (ages 13 and 15) who has been diagnosed with a brain tumor.  He is working with physicians a Duke to schedule surgery.

    Anna G's sister-in-law is dealing with the difficulties of a divorce that involves 2 young children. 
    Ronnie K. starts a new cancer treatment this week.
    Chuck E. has had a postive first week on his new job!!!

    Chuck E. starts his new job this week!
    Lou Ann's mom is feeling better, though her dad is dealing with several health issues.
    Jay G's dad continues to have chemo treatments, but has gotten good reports from his doctor! 
    Roy C shared that he had recently seen Rhonda S and Ashley has had several difficult issues recently -- a car accident, respiratory issues and a kidney stone.

    • Chuck E. has accepted a job in Greensboro -- leasing commercial real estate!  YAY for answered prayer!  He asked that we keep those who are struggling with unemployment in our prayers.  
    • Judy H. reported that her brother continues to do better!!!  He is home -- please consider sending him a card of encouragement.  Let Judy or Holli know if you need his address.   Additonally, Judy's son, Andrew will be deploying to Kuwait on Nov 7.
    • Julie B. asks that we lift up her 21 year old nephew in prayer.  He will be traveling to India on Nov 3 for a 2 week missions trip.  His own faith is still developing as he has recently battled issues related to alcohol and other drug abuse.

    • Jay G  requested that we keep two situations in our prayers:   he has a co-worker who passed away (cancer) and another co-worker whose father died. 
    • Kelly W's mom is dealing with cancer and based on some recent test results she will be having a mastectomy. 
    • Chuck E continues to have job interviews and anticipates news!
    • Lou Ann's daugheter, Jamie, has her permit!!!!!
    • Judy H's son, Andrew, is currently home and is scheduled to leave for Kuwait on Nov 7.  Her brother continues to struggle with physical and emotional concerns.
    • Karen and Todd D's son, Adam, has taken the test to help determine which branch of service will be the best choice for him.
    • Congratulations to Niki and Jeff....she said "YES!"

    • Please keep Kerry L and her family in your prayer as they are dealing with the unexpected death of her brother.  Kerry will be traveling to NY to be with her parents and family. 
    • Debbie M's friend, Amy, had  surgery on Fri.  to remove part of her lung in an effort to eliminate the cancer that she has been fighting.   
    • Lou Ann R's mom has had numerous tests -- so far everything has come back negative, but she continues to have pain.  More tests are scheduled this week.  The good news is birthday cake will be plentiful at Lou Ann's house this week as her son, Justin, and daughter, Jamie both celebrate birthdays on Wed!!!   (18 and 15 respectively)  Jamie will be getting her permit on Wed!
    • Niki S. asked for prayers as she faces stressful decisions related to child custody arrangments.  On a happier note -- she got a positive report from her cardiologist this week!
    • Chuck and Michelle E's son, Trent, got his permit!!!  
    • Angie S's job is going well -- at least that's what Jason says!! 
    • Chuck E continues to wait for news from several job interviews.

    • Catrin G's dad has been released by one Dr. to return to work!  Keep him in your prayers as he waits to hear from a second Dr.  He still has a lot of healing ahead as he continues his cancer recovery.
    • Michelle E shared an answered prayer -- her dad, Mike H. has been declared cancer free!!!   
    • Cheryl H's step-father passed away recently and her mom is struggling.  Keep Cheryl's mom in your prayers as she deals with the loss of her husband.
    • Michelle E provided an update on her co-worker, Joy.  A young mom of two (ages 15 and 4) who is battling cancer with a reportedly poor prognosis. 
    • Judy H provided an update on her brother who continues to deal with depression and anxiety after completing radiation treatment for skin cancer.  He has had some better days after some medication changes.  Cards and emails would be appreciated -- contact Holli S for address info.
    • Debbie M's friend, Amy, will be having surgery on Fri.  Part of her lung will be removed in an effort to elimate the cancer.  How much of her lung they will need to remove will depend on what is found during the surgery.  
    • Chuck E is back home in Kernersville and continues to have interviews as he looks for employment -- his current job continues until the end of the year.

    • Judy Hester's brother has completed radiation treatments for the skin cancer on his leg, but now has some additional spots that he is concerned about.  He is also struggling with related anxiety and depression.  He would love some encouragement, so please send a card or a message - contact Holli for address info.
    •  Niki S. asked for prayers as she is facing stressful decisions related to child custody arrangments.
    • Roy C. provided an update on the young lady he had previously mentioned (the mom of one of his son's friends).  She remains in the hospital, is conscious and making some slow improvement, but still in ICU.
    • Lou Ann R.'s mom continues to work with doctors to figure out the source of her pain.  More tests are scheduled. 
    • Amy, the young woman that Debbie M. has mentioned previously (the mom of Reese's friend), continues to face uncetainty with cancer.  The spot on her lung has spread and she will be meeting with her Dr this week to find out how much of her lung will need to be removed.  (By the way -- this is the same person that Lee S. has mentioned in First Fruits a couple of times.)
    • Congratulations to Andrew and Anna (Jerry and Judy H's daughter) who were married on Saturday, Sept 24!!
    • Debbie M. mentioned that Reese is really enjoying school this year and gave a shout out to Sharon H. and her team of teachers for creating a great environment for their students!
    • Mike and Sharon H. are thrilled that their daugher, Morgan, will start a new job in October and will no longer be working nights at the hospital.  She will be working for a pediatric practice as a nurse.
    • Alex, Roy C.'s son, has applied to the Business School at UNC and awaits word on his acceptance.   Good Luck Alex!!!
